How to Organize a Cleaning Cart for Your Home
A homemaker’s most handy tool for keeping a clean house – a cleaning cart! If you can organize a cleaning cart for your home, you will find that keeping up with your cleaning routine becomes much more efficient!

Why use a cleaning cart
When you are getting ready to clean an area of your house, you need the least amount of obstacles possible. It needs to be easy to get started! Let’s be honest, we as humans take the path of least resistance and if something is too difficult or complicated, we just won’t do it! One thing you don’t want to do is have to go back and forth between the area you’re cleaning and your cleaning supply cabinet. You want to be able to have everything you need in one spot and be able to transport it easily! This is why I love having a cleaning cart. It makes it SO easy to get everything I need for my cleaning task for that day.
The only other alternative I can think of for not going back and forth between to the cleaning supply cabinet/closet is to keep supplies in every area of the house where they’re needed. This could work, but then it makes it more complicated when re-filling the supplies because you have multiple locations to restock. With a cleaning cart, it’s all in one location (except for the extras, which we will keep in a cabinet or closet somewhere!) But it makes restocking the supplies SO much easier!

How to organize your own cleaning cart
Here are some step by step instructions for organizing your own cleaning cart!
1. Purchase a cleaning cart

The obvious first step is to purchase a cart to use! I would encourage you to get one in a color that makes you happy. Maybe it’s a white one to keep things bright and clean, maybe it’s a mint green color, (this color just screams CLEAN to me) or maybe you go for pink! I have this blush pink cart from the Container Store! Amazon also has some great options for carts. They are easy to find pretty much anywhere!
I also like having these hooks so I can hang my cleaning brushes on the side of my cart!
2. Decide what supplies you want to keep in your cart.
You’ll want to keep all of your basic cleaning supplies that you regularly use in your cart. Think about cleaning spray bottles, cleaning rags, paper towels, cleaning brushes, items to dust with, cleaning gloves, etc. Also think about any other small add-on items that attach to larger items such as a Swiffer Sweeper.
Here’s a peak at what I keep in my cart!
Top Tier:

- Swiffer Sweeper refills
- Swiffer Duster refills
- Swiffer Duster handle
- Toothbrushes for cleaning
- Room Spray
- Sponge
- Disposable Cleaning Gloves
- Clorox Toilet Wand refills
- Clorox Toilet Wand kit
- Paper Towels
- Cleaning brushes

Middle Tier:

- Branch Basics bathroom cleaner
- Branch basics glass cleaner
- Baking Soda
- Mop & baseboard cloth pads
- Dusting mitt

Bottom Tier:

3. Find baskets, caddies, and/or containers to store smaller items in your cart

The way that I keep my cleaning cart organized is by having things contained in smaller containers.
My favorite item that I have in my cart is this cute cleaning caddy from Walmart. It’s perfect for keeping supplies in! A caddy like this is also easy to take out of your cart if you JUST needed those items for a cleaning task but it fits easily into cart along with the rest of the items!
On the second row I just have an old empty Swiffer refill box that fits my mop & baseboard cleaner pads perfectly.
On the bottom I keep all my rags in a basket! I don’t remember where I got this specific basket, but any basket will do!
You likely already have things in your home you can use!
4. Figure out where to store your cart

If I had a bigger laundry room, I would store it in there! I think it’s cute enough to not have to be stored away in a closet, but that’s where mine goes because of lack of space! But it is easy to get to because this closet is in the middle of our house! Really anywhere will do, just make sure it’s easily accessible.
Keep the rest of your supplies in storage
We like to buy in bulk in our house because I do not like to run out of things! The worst is when you get ready to clean something and realize you don’t have the supplies you need. Obviously, all of this won’t fit in the cleaning cart, so I have a designated cabinet in my laundry room where I keep the bulk supplies. Then I just refill the cart as needed! I do think it’s helpful when something needs to be refilled to just go ahead and make sure the rest of the items are stocked in the cart.
Things I keep in bulk that I refill:
There you have it! Enjoy cleaning with your new cleaning cart!
Make household chores more enjoyable
P.S. Do you sometimes find cleaning and house chores to be dreadful or boring? While homemaking certainly is mundane at times, I believe we can make things more enjoyable by romanticizing life a little bit! There’s a reason why I choose a pink cleaning cart, bamboo cleaning brushes, and glass bottles for my cleaning sprays! It’s the little things that can bring beauty and joy into our days!

I actually love this idea! I so want one I think it will make cleaning so much more enjoyable having an adorable cart with everything you need it in! Will have to get one 😊
I’m so glad you found it helpful! Thank you for reading!
I read a book called, The House That Cleans Itself, and one of the tips was to have cleaning supplies on every floor, so that you don’t have to go searching and wasting time to gather all of you items! This definitely fits the bill!
Love that! That’s also a great idea! I need to read that book
